Symbolism & Iconography

Associated with the Bwete society and used in traditional ekuk masquerades to summon protective forest spirits, foster community well-being, and neutralize negative energies. The prominent white kaolin pigment covering the eye zones represents spiritual purity, illumination, and connection to the ancestral realm.

Aesthetic & Formal Analysis

Distinguished by a characteristic heart-shaped facial plane, large circular white-pigmented eye patches framing narrow coffee-bean pupils, geometric chevron markings on the upper forehead, and an appealing organic dark wood patina contrasted with earthy pigments.
